The Middleton 60+ Luncheon Club was founded in September 2003 with the following aims:
To provide for members a balanced nutritious meal at a reasonable cost on a regular basis.
To develop social and recreational activities for and with the members and hence to counter the effects of social and geographical isolation
To encourage and facilitate a community spirit among members and within the whole community.
It meets in the Middleton Recreation Room on the third Thursday of each month(except August). Membership is open to all pensioners resident in the Parish of Middleton and at the discretion of the Management Committee, to former residents of the Parish and other pensioners living outside but close to the Parish Boundary.
The Club is a very friendly gathering of between 50 and 60 people. There is a freshly cooked two course lunch starting at 1.00 pm and this is usually followed, at around 2.00 pm, by either a speaker or an activity. This continues for 30 to 45 minutes and is followed by a raffle or some other fund raising event. Other regular programme activities to date have included coach outings and theatre visits.
